Part of our flint vodka bottles range; the stock moulds are pictured at the end of this guide.

A vodka bottle has no list price: it is quoted per project, and the figure is set mainly by glass weight, order quantity, whether the mold is stock or custom, decoration and the closure. A plain 750 ml stock bottle in standard flint sits at the low end of the range, and a heavy custom super-premium bottle at the high end. The practical way to a number you can rely on is a complete specification, which is listed at the end of this article.

Where each size sits in the range

The table ranks the common formats against one another for stock bottles in standard flint. It shows relative position only; the actual figure comes from a written quotation against your specification.

FormatRelative positionWhat sets it apart

The factors that move a quotation

Glass weight

Weight is the largest single driver, because glass is costed largely by how much of it there is. A 650 g super-premium bottle holds more molten glass and needs longer annealing than a 420 g standard one; such a bottle may carry 50 percent more glass, and it forms more slowly too. Premium positioning often calls for a thick base and walls, and every additional 100 g is paid for twice, once in the bottle and again in ocean freight.

Stock or custom mold

A stock mold has no tooling charge and is quick to sample, which favors a first launch. Its weakness is that another brand can buy the same shape. A custom mold gives a silhouette that belongs to the brand alone and is not offered to other customers, in return for a tooling investment and a larger volume commitment.

Custom tooling is justified when the projected volume spreads the mold cost to an acceptable amount per bottle and when the shape is itself part of the brand identity. Plenty of vodka brands start on a stock mold, prove that the product sells, and commission their own mold afterwards. If you are undecided, ask us for two quotations side by side: the stock bottle now, and a custom mold at your twelve-month volume projection.

The stock shapes available at present are shown in our glass bottle collections. Buyers comparing categories will find the same weight-and-volume logic in the article on tequila bottle pricing.

Glass type

Standard flint is the baseline. Extra-flint, a low-iron glass chosen for a crystal-clear look, costs more because its raw materials must be purer. Frosted, sprayed or tinted effects are not glass types at all; they appear as decoration on the quotation.

Decoration

Screen printing, acid-etch frosting, color spraying, electroplating, decals and hot stamping are charged per pass and per color against the artwork. One screen-printed color adds little. Stacking frosting, printing and electroplating can bring the decoration close to the cost of the undecorated bottle, and a full metallic electroplate may equal it.

Closure

Closures are a separate line and are not included in the bottle figure unless requested. Bar-top corks, whether natural, synthetic or wood-topped, aluminum ROPP caps and glass stoppers differ widely in cost. Fix the closure together with the neck finish, since switching from a cork to a screw cap later can require another mold. Closures can be sourced alongside the bottles and matched to the neck.

Quantity and packing

Unit cost drops steeply as quantity rises, through furnace allocation and line efficiency, so a one-pallet trial and a full container of the same bottle are quoted very differently. Packing matters as well. Export cartons versus bulk pallets, and palletized versus floor-loaded containers, alter both the packing charge and how much freight each bottle carries.

Costs outside the bottle quotation

The bottle figure is not the landed cost. First-time spirits buyers are most often caught out by these lines:

  • the bar-top cork or ROPP cap, and its liner;
  • decoration plates and setup charges;
  • export cartons, dividers and pallets;
  • ocean freight, which is significant per unit on heavy super-premium glass;
  • duties and broker fees at the destination.

On shipments of spirits glass to the US we list bottles, closures and packing as separate lines on the commercial invoice, so the broker can classify each correctly.

How timing changes what you pay

Schedule affects cost without changing the glass. Rush production slots and samples sent by air carry surcharges, whereas an order placed with time in hand runs on the normal furnace schedule at normal rates. A custom mold adds tooling and trial-blow time at the start. Buyers who plan a launch a full season ahead pay less per bottle than those working back from a fixed retail date, simply because the expedite fees and freight upgrades never arise.

What to send for a firm quotation

A quotation is only as accurate as the specification it answers. Eight items make it hold:

  1. Capacity, plus the fill point if your market regulates it.
  2. Target bottle weight, or a reference sample or photo.
  3. Whether a stock mold is acceptable or a custom mold is required.
  4. Glass type: standard flint or extra-flint.
  5. Decoration: number of print colors, frosting, spraying, or none.
  6. Closure: bar-top cork, ROPP or glass stopper, with dimensions if it already exists.
  7. Quantity per order and the annual projection.
  8. Destination port, and whether you want delivered or ex-works terms.

Programs that combine several SKUs can load them in one mixed container, which lowers the freight carried by each bottle.

Frequently asked questions

What does an average 750 ml vodka bottle cost?

There is no dependable average. A standard flint stock bottle bought by the container is in the middle of the range and a heavy super-premium version is well above it, with weight, decoration and quantity deciding the exact figure in the written quotation.

What is the minimum order for stock vodka bottles?

It depends on the bottle model and is confirmed with the quotation. Mixed containers covering several bottle types are routine.

Is a custom mold worth its tooling cost?

It is when the shape is part of the brand and the forecast volume absorbs the tooling comfortably. Otherwise a stock mold is the safer start.
